Slow Cooker Butter Beans
Ingredients:
1 lb Ham/ham bones/sausage/tasso (meat of your choosing for flavor)
Chicken broth
Tony's
butter
Bay leaves
Poultry seasoning
1lb Large white Navy beans
crock pot liners for easy cleanup
Steps:
1. Line slow cooker and put your beans inside, then add in enough chicken broth to cover all the beans twice. You may need to add more as the beans soak them up. Leave this in the fridge overnight.
2. The next morning, put slow cooker crock in it's base and turn to low. Make sure beans have enough liquid to cover them, plus another half. Add meat.
3. Add poultry seasoning, bay leaves and a bit of tonys to taste.
4. Cook on low for at least 6 hours, stirring every half hour or hour. Note: At the last hour of cooking, use a potato masher to mash some beans. 10 or fewer presses should be enough, depending on how thick you want your beans.
5. Add butter and season to taste. Serve over rice or with cornbread.
